Just a little note to say that, when choosing a therapist, please be very very careful to do some research. Don't be afraid to ask the therapist about their qualifications.
If you are looking for mental health support, you need to look for a psychotherapist.
The job title of 'therapist' (and 'play therapist') is not protected and therefore anyone can call themselves a therapist with minimal to no training.
PTUK or BAPT trained therapists undertake rigorous University level, post graduate training. It takes a minimum of 2 and a half years to train to be a play therapist with PTUK (Play Therapy UK). This includes 200 hours of clinical work with clients, as well as intensive academic training.
The Children's Mental Health Charter is just one of many campaigns designed to protect children and ensure they receive genuine psychotherapy.
If you need help choosing a therapist for your child - even if it is not play therapy - please do feel free to drop me a message and I am happy to help you to find a psychotherapist that will be able to provide the right support for your child.
